SOLITAIRE

This piece is about absence, solitude and connection with place. This work is driven by memories, and influences from my experience in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.

This sequence is a collection of 80 digital photos merged to into a moving picture using Final Cut Pro and Adobe, to create a piece where you experience a character in a state of daydream. During his game of Solitaire he tries to come to terms with yearning his past.

 

One of my influences were Jim Jarmusch's Coffee and cigarettes, from the black and white film gritty texture that was so well rendered. Although his film has connections and conflicts with different characters, in Solitaire the conflict is within himself, the only character.

 

The poem Ausencia "Absence" that is spoken in Portuguese is of Vinicus De Moares 1935. A poet & musician from Brazil.

The poem is about memories and absence of home and a loved one.

 

The portraits are digital captures shot in New York & the images of Mexico are 35mm B&W film.
